The national translation project of Egypt has just issued a translation into Arabic of Serageldin's monograph on the Modernity of Shakespeare. Initial comments from the Egyptian intelligentsia register surprise that Serageldin could be publishing in so many fields, and at such a high level of scholarship in each of them. More importantly, a few of them noted the enormously favorable introduction provided by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, himself a specialist in English literature. Reached for comment, Serageldin mentioned that of his 49 publications to date (edited and written) he considered the Shakespeare monograph as one of his favorites.
