Towards Enhancing Education and Research in the Life Sciences

Together with Life Science educators from the MENA region, Serageldin is invited to participate in the planning meeting for the project by the National Research Council of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences to design and develop a framework for an international series of faculty development workshops, called “educational institutes”. The first workshop, which takes place later this year, will be focused on Egypt and the students will be life sciences academic faculty from academic and research institutions in Egypt who will be taught methods for effective adult teaching and learning and be given assistance in developing educational and curricular materials on dual use research issues, including responsible conduct of research and scientific integrity.

In response to a request to share his vision of the life sciences that have shaped the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s role in support and advancement of human welfare in the developing world, Serageldin will also give a plenary session talk entitled The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and its role in supporting the Life Sciences and Education. The meeting, which is hosted by The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) in Trieste, is held from 30 May to 1 June, under the title Developing a Framework for an International Faculty Development Project on Education about Research in the Life Sciences with Dual Use Potential.
