On the Evolution of Censorship

At the World Library and Information Congress: 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, in a session tackling the transition from classical censorship to restriction of freedom of access on the Internet, Serageldin gave a keynote speech about the evolution of censorship in a digital age. The Congress, which took place in Gothenburg, Sweden from 10 to 15 August, was held under the theme Open access to knowledge - promoting sustainable progress.

The BA International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Center for Arabic Speaking Libraries (IFLA-CASL) also participated in the congress and provided simultaneous translation for the conference proceedings, as well as editing and translating IFLA Express 2010, the conference’s daily newsletter.

Founded in Scotland in 1927, IFLA is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. It has currently 1600 members in approximately 150 countries around the world.
