Returning to his old Alma Mater, Ismail Serageldin gave a major address at the faculty of economics and political science which was very well attended. In that session he challenged conventional views of sustainability and economic measurement and management. He presented the vision of sustainability as offering future generations as much, if not more, opportunities than we have had ourselves. This he demonstrated could be measured and would lead to a different approach to economic management in promoting a sustainable development path.
