22/05/2007 | Gothenburg

Speaking to the assembled dignitaries and students attending the CIP forum, Serageldin delivered a moving keynote address arguing that the need to provide access to all knowledge to all people at all times, was a need that would benefit both advanced and developing countries. Using his signature technique of hundreds of pictures moving at rapid-fire pace, he argued eloquently for the recognition of the value of the creative commons and of allowing much greater flexibility in the use and reuse of artistic material to create new added value buy new generation of artists. He also made the case for a new business model that would combine paid instant printing with free on-line consultation. Thunderous applause greeted his remarks.
