Charles Correa Presents the Language of Architecture at the BA

Ismail Serageldin welcomed good friend and world renowned architect, planner, activist, theoretician and a fundamental figure in the world-wide panorama of the contemporary architecture to the BA where he delivered a lecture on the language of architecture. Throughout the lecture, Correa covered a wide range of his works, from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial at the Sabarmati Ashram, to the Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, and the State Assembly for Madhya Pradesh - as well as housing projects and townships in Delhi, Bombay, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. Charles Correa was Chief Architect for ''Navi Mumbai'' the new city of 2 million people, across the harbor from Bombay, and was appointed Chairman of the National Commission on Urbanization in 1985 by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The lecture was attended by a large number of university students and was very well received.
