In a policy dialogue entitled “Democracy and Human Rights in Decline”, organized by the Club de Madrid and the Robert F. Kennedy Center (RFK) Center, with the Bertelsmann Stiftung as knowledge partner, Serageldin joined fellow panelists in a discussion on the state and the future of democracy. Hosted by the European University Institute , the conference brought together expert assessments with the experienced perspectives of leading political and social actors.
The meeting marked the launch of the two-year, multi-stakeholder Club de Madrid-led Next Generation Democracy (NGD) Project. NGD will offer a comprehensive analysis of regional dynamics in and responses to potential threats to democracy. The overall aim of NGD is to enable democracy to meet the expectations and needs of all citizens and the preservation of freedom and dignity to help secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
