At the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Serageldin convened with the board members of the Nizami Ganjavi Ineternational Center (NGIC) and Club de Madrid in a preparatory meeting for the II Global Shared Societies Forum: Post 2015 Sustainable Development Agenda - Measuring Shared Societies to be held in Baku this coming April. Serageldin presented a proposal for an academic program for NGIC.

Participants at the meeting included, former Latvian president, Co-Chair of the NGIC, President of Club de Madrid, Vaira Vike-Freiberga; former Romanian President Emil Constantinescu; former Bulgarian President Petar Stoyanov; and, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, Board Member of the NGIC, Marianna V. Vardinoyannis.

The NGIC is a cultural, non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijani poet, Nizami Ganjavi, and to the study and dissemination of his works. The Club de Madrid is an independent non-profit organization composed of more than 90 democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers from 62 different countries. The cooperation between the NGIC and the Club de Madrid started in May 2013 with the First South Caucasus Forum, where a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the two organizations to join forces and work together to strengthen the Club de Madrid’s mission of “democracy that delivers”, as well as the NGIC’s mission to build a dialogue and understanding between cultures and peoples.
