NGIC meetings in Rome

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) whose Board of Trustees  Serageldin has the pleasure of co-Chairing with President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the former President of Latvia, held it 19th high-level meeting involving many former presidents and Prime Ministers to discuss the topic of Violence, from wars to terrorism, to crime to domestic violence, and what could be done about it. We naturally focused on the security aspects and we all considered that the EU was the most successful project of the last century, as it had brought decades of peace and prosperity to a continent that had been ravaged by wars and destruction. We also stressed the need for Europe to continue the expansion of both NATO and the EU to bring Eastern Europe and the Balkans into its embrace. As usual, the discussions were of a very high quality, combining candor with insight.
