The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) invited Serageldin to be guest of Honour and give a keynote speech at their 3rd Science Congress on “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend: Ethiopia’s Emerging Challenge". In his invitation letter, Masresha Fetene, Executive Director of
EAS expressed that the Academy was immensely inspired by Serageldin’s work at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and by his “unmatched contribution to empowering African youth through science, research and active engagement”. The conference was opened by Ato Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia. Serageldin’s keynote speech entitled “Africa’s Challenge of Harnessing the Potential of its a Youth” was very well received and was followed by a question and answer session.
The Congress brought together high profile government officials, researchers, policymakers, academics, civil society organizations, and international stakeholders to discuss and analyze this timely issue.
