A distinguished group of Egyptian scientists participated in the two-day workshop organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) on gene-editing and research methodology. Serageldin inaugurated the meeting with a welcome note and chaired the first session where the speakers included the world-renowned heart transplant surgeon, Sir Magdi Yacoub who spoke on “Potential and Plans of Gene editing in inherited Heart muscle disease”; Yehia Halim Zaki, Advisor to the BA Director; and Nadia Zakhary, Egyptian Minister of Scientific Research.
It is worth mentioning here that Serageldin is a member in the international Committee studying Human Gene Editing: Scientific, Medical and Ethical Considerations that will examine the clinical, ethical, legal, and social implications of the use of human genome editing technologies in biomedical research and medicine.
