Once again addressing the global threat of extremism, Serageldin participated in the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) X High-Level Meeting on “Violent extremism and how to Fight it”. As co-chair of the NGIC he opened the meeting together with Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of Latvia 1999-2007, Co-Chair NGIC; Wim Kok, Prime Minister of the Netherlands 1994-2002; and Boris Tadic, President of Serbia 2004-2012. On the second day of the meeting Serageldin shared a panel with Alexander Kwasniewski, President of Poland 1995-2005; Ahmed Naseem Shah, Director of the Islamic Studies, University of Kashmir; Rexhep Meidani, President of Albania, 1997-2002; in a session entitled “Terrorism and Global Challenges” which discussed what is to be done in the face of perceived injustice that is leading to extremism and violence.
The two-day event brought together former heads of state and government from 20 countries, as well as nearly 50 acclaimed politicians, public figures, experts and scientists.

The meeting also celebrates the 875th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi. Established in 2012 on the 870th anniversary of the ancient Azeri poet Nizami Ganjavi, the NGIC is a cultural center promoting the heritage of Nizami. Its projects include publishing, re-editing and translating the works of the famous poet. It is a center for learning, tolerance, dialogue and understanding
