Serageldin was invited to participate as panelist at The Global Round Table (GRT) 2015 Main Event held at the renowned Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest. The high-level discussion tackled the subject of “Morality in Politics” and discussed whether and how economic issues override morality in political leadership. Moderators at the Round Table were Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, Former President of Latvia: Yves Leterme, Former Prime Minister of Belgium; and Daniel Daianu, Former Minister of Finance of Romania. Each session was followed by interaction with the audience and University students asked questions and raised issues of concern. A closing speech was given by Serageldin at the end of the event.
The GRT is an innovative, independent initiative with the aim to promote greater moral responsibility by political and societal leaders. The issue is addressed in a focused round-table by invited high-level experts and relevant individuals that have hands-on experience and thorough understanding of the subject and related broader implications. Its Protector and High Patron is Boutros Boutros Ghali, Former UN Secretary General , and President of the International Panel on Democracy and Development. It’s International Board includes Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, Former President of Latvia; Erhard Busek, Former Vice Chancellor of Austria; and Mohan Munasinghe, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
