The theme of this year’s Shakespeare Conference at the Library of Alexandria was “The Politics of Power in Shakespeare’s History Plays”. The event was attended by a great number of students and lovers of literature, who sat in rapt attention as Serageldin gave his annual presentation on this universally celebrated occasion. Serageldin spoke of Shakespeare’s craftsmanship and masterful portrayal of multi-layered characters, pointing out how he redefined them in such a way that they continue to engage us across time, place and language.
