First Lady Suzanne Mubarak visited the Bibliotheca Alexandrina today and held a press conference at which she delivered a very important address that laid out the future path of the BA and announced the new governance structures of the BA. Her speech has been widely quoted in the press and among intellectual circles in Egypt. Mrs. Mubarak will be the chair of the board of trustees of the BA, and what a board it is, comprising some of the most eminent Egyptians and non-Egyptians in the world. She also announced the pending constitution of the council of patrons, and spoke of her confidence in Ismail Serageldin as Director of the BA, ad interim.
