The Science and Technology for Society (STS) forum annual meeting convened in Kyoto on 2 - 4 October 2016. The forum held concurrent sessions covering a wide range of topics: Earth science, Cities, ICT, Cooperation in science and technology, Science, Technology and Society, Engineering and innovation, Life sciences, Energy and environment. Seragaldin was speaker in a session entitled “Megacities”; co-speakers on the panel were: Steven E. Koonin, Director, Center for Urban Science and Progress New York University; Arnel Paciano D. Casanova, President & CEO, The Bases Conversion and Development Authority; Haruo Hayashi, President, National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention; Takashi Onishi, President, Science Council of Japan; Kinya Seto, President and CEO, LIXIL Group Corporation.
The STS annual meeting is held on the first Sunday of October every year in Kyoto, Japan, and gathers top policymakers, business leaders, scientists, researchers, media leaders and Nobel laureates from all over the world, to address science and technology issues in the 21st century. Its aim is to build a human network, of a very broad a range of participants and organizations, that would, in time, resolve the new types of problems stemming from the application of science and technology. Serageldin is one of the forty founding members of the STS.
